UNDERSTAND THE PRODUCT

What is Tholi?

Is Tholi a browser or a canvas tool?

It is a desktop browser built around a spatial canvas. Webpages, local files, notes, and AI results enter the same work scene as content windows.

How is it different from Chrome or Edge?

Conventional browsers organize pages through tabs, split views, and workspaces. Tholi also preserves two-dimensional position, groups, and relationships. See the product comparison.

Is the website canvas the complete app?

No. It uses curated local examples to demonstrate core interactions. It cannot open arbitrary websites and does not include every desktop feature.

What should I know before installing?

Is Tholi free? Can I use it for work or commercial projects?

The current preview is free to use for personal and commercial purposes. You can use it for learning, office work, and client projects. Any fees for third-party websites or AI services follow the respective provider's policies. Read the usage details.

Which operating systems are supported?

A Windows x64 installer is available.

Why does Windows show “Unknown publisher”?

The v0.3.4 installer is not Windows code-signed. Use the file listed on the download page and verify SHA-256. Password viewing and export are unavailable; saving, importing, and autofill are unaffected.

How do I update Tholi?

Follow the in-app update prompt when it appears, or get a newer installer from the download page. Add your AI connections again if upgrading from a version earlier than v0.3.2.

LOCAL AND REMOTE

What leaves the device?

Where are workspaces and canvas data stored?

Layouts, groups, notes, history, and other work state are stored in the local application data folder by default. Websites still receive normal network requests when visited.

What is sent when I use AI?

Only when you actively use AI are extracted source text, your question, and required context sent to the AI service you selected.

Can I use the canvas without remote AI?

Yes. Browsing, arranging, grouping, and saving workspaces do not require remote AI. Read the first-time AI setup guide.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Check the most common causes first.

Which local files can Tholi open?

The current implementation can extract text from text files, CSV, DOCX, XLSX/XLSM, PPTX, PDF, and EPUB for AI context. Rendering depends on the desktop application.

Why does a website fail to open or render fully?

Check the connection and address first. Some sites restrict embedding, sign-in, or automation, and compatibility can change as sites update.

Why do some shortcuts not work in the website demo?

The demo runs in a browser tab, so the browser may claim some combinations first. Use the guide for desktop shortcuts.
